About the Guild

Once upon a time, there was a young family who became interested in Shakespeare after reading a play out loud for fun. The older children wanted to stage a real play, and started with a condensed version of The Taming of the Shrew, which was set in Padua. In honor of that first play, they christened the new group after Padua's patron saint, and the Saint Anthony Guild Players was born.
Since that first production, the Guild has gone through many stages (literally and figuratively), and many plays, such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, and The Comedy of Errors, among others. Our mission is to bring the profound plays of Shakespeare to life, in such a way that adults and children alike can find in them a source of education, entertainment, and good old-fashioned fun. While we do count one tragedy among our history of more than a dozen plays, we now focus on the comedies, which are most suitable for families with small children.

Our venues have, in the past, included the Green Bay Botanical Gardens, the Central Brown County Library, Heritage Hill, the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, and the Pulaski High School Auditorium. This year we will be once more be performing at the Central Brown County Library.

Our actors come to us (many of them year after year) from families in Green Bay and Appleton. They are an amazingly talented, fun group, and, in the words of the first director, they "bring their sense of wonder and innocence to the productions". Currently, our actors span the age range of about 10-20 years old. These gifted young people give up much of their summer to attending rehearsals, memorizing lines, and the like, and all their hard work invariably pays off when the curtains finally open.

If you have any questions regarding the Saint Anthony Guild Players, please feel free to leave us a message on our Facebook page.

God bless you, and we hope to see you at the show!!!
